The stabbing pain is most likely related to an area of pleural inflammation that is called pleurisy. This inflammation makes it hurt when you lung moves s you breath in and out. The pleura is the lining that permits you lungs to inflate and deflate smoothly. Inflammation can disturb the production of pleural fluid which is a lubricant. Often this rub can be heard with stethoscope as u breath.
