Just had a ct scan and they found minimal subsegmental atelectasis of the posterior inferior left lung and also acute diverticulitis. could the atelectasis be caused by the pain of diverticulitis and how do you heal the atelectasis?

Minimal atelectasis at the lung base can be caused by failure or inability to take a full deep breath or, if permanent, from old inflammation as in bronchopneumonia or from a blocked airway. If you had severe left abdominal pain from acute diverticulitis, it could have prevented you from taking a full inspiration. This type of atelectasis would clear with a good deep breath.
