Vitamin D is a vitamin that can store up in your system over time, different from many that flush out from your system daily. Excesses can produce problems. Adults can tolerate up to 4000 IU/day if they have normal Vitamin D levels. Those with documented deficiency may be treated with higher doses. I think you are fine with 1 or 2. Consider having a blood test to verify your current D level.

Since the traditional way to increase serum levels of Vitamin D is via sunshine, your supplements are fine. Best way to determine amounts needed is to check your blood levels. 2000 IU's daily may be enough. Serum levels should be above 30 ng/ml at a minimum, but ideal range to shoot for is 50-70 ng/ml. If too high, cut back dose.
