I had an xray the indicated that i have osteoarthritis but my doctor wanted me to have an mri to confirm. if on the day i had the mri i wasn't having a flare up, will it show up still on the mri the inflammation or no?

Yes, changes related to osteoarthritis will still show with better detail, MRI remains the best available imaging test for the musculoskeletal system.

Osteoarthritis is primarily a destruction of the ends of the bones. The MRI that has been ordered is being used to assess soft tissue structures as an alternate source for your symptoms. Structures like the ligaments, tendons, muscles, cartilage, meniscus and the bone marrow are all further assessed with the MRI & could provide your doc with a source for symptoms that are not coming from bone.
