A member asked:

My husband family has thalassemia. but my husband always has normal rbc, hgb, mcv, mchc, mch. he doesnt have iron deficiency either. is there a high possibility he has the trait ?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

If both of his parents have the trait, there is a 25% chance of his being normal. Some people with the family history inherit only a very mild form or no form at all. He can pass on this recessive trait however. I would rather have a geneticist answer your question though.
