A member asked:

Mcv, mchc, mch low. rbc 5.41 h, platelets 456. rdw 15.9. hemo & hema, mpv all normal. have had iron deficiency for years, but not tested this time. spotting perimenopause 2 months that's been checked yesterday. if iron deficiency, why high rbc?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

High RBC count may be the body's attempt to compensate for the small size of your red cells. Had you provided the actual values for all the parameters, it would have been helpful. Elevated platelet count and microcytosis are suggestive of iron deficiency.
