Esophageal inflammation is to be taken seriously, most often related to gastric reflux and a predisposing factor in developing Barrett's Syndrome, a pre-cancerous change with critical implications. If the diagnosis is just reflux esophagitis without evidence of Barrett esophagus, you do not need to have EGD repeated if problem resolves completely with treatment.
