An upper endoscopy is not usually done with general anesthesia but with sedation. The medications used are such that you won’t remember the procedure so you will feel like you went to sleep. But, you will still be breathing on your own since no paralytics are used. It is well monitored. Talk to your gastroenterologist about the sedation that they use. Best of luck to you!!
