How do you differentate between purple toe syndrome versus a bruised toe?

I would take a history to see if the toe was bruised or not and if you are taking Warfarin. Bruise is usually only one or two and PRS will be more. Google both and look at images. See what you think. As you will note there are several different PTS causes. Take pictures and review what had been going on before you noted them. Share with us and your Dr.

You have to remember that purple toe is a symptom therefore we have to find what is causing it. And 40 years of practice as a podiatrist I had one patient with purple toes that I sent immediately to the vascular surgeon. He diagnosed a 96% closure of a carotid arteries and sent to the hospital immediately by ambulance. Yes an unusual case to show you the extremes. Or a bruised toe. get it examined
