Brown spot on my tooth appeared suddenly at gum line. dentist said it's an exposed nerve and asked if it hurt. i said no, then he scraped it with a tool and that hurt, so he desensitized it. now it hurts when i eat sweets. why? it never hurt before?

Sounds like you may have gum recession, root exposure, and that area (which is not supposed to be exposed to oral fluids) has lost its protective cementum covering. Now dentinal tubules, with direct access to pulp chamber, is now exposed. May need restoration. Desensitizing toothpaste may help. May be time to see a specialist Periodontist

Brown spot on tooth, not gum so a tooth problem. Did you have an x-ray of tooth?. Possible cavity.
