Need an MRI: Its common to fracture the distal aspect of the radius (forearm) during a fall braced by an outstretched hand. Other nearby bones can also be fractured like the scaphoid, and soft tissues can be damaged with hematomas, sprains, and tears. If xrays are negative and symptoms persist, then an MRI is recommended to detail the soft tissues and bones better, looking for findings xrays may not uncover.
