A member asked:

Vagina candidas glabrata: dr put me on higher dose of fluconazole(300mg/day) as susceptibility test showed dose dependant. what does it mean? is fluconazole harmful for the body? im worried about increased dose. afraid my body will be resistant?

If you are otherwise healthy you should tolerate a short course of fluconazole, even at the higher dose. It has been in common use for many years now. It is the Candida and not your body that is resistant, hence the higher dose, and in fact a lower and likely inadequate dose of fluconazole would create more potential for increased resistance. Your treatment appears appropriate.

I'm afraid this forum cannot do more in advising you about your vaginal candidiasis. We do not provide direct care, but you've questioned everything your own doctor advises. It seems he is providing excellent, science-based care, so follow his advice. If that doesn't seem to be working out, find another, e.g. an infectious diseases specialist or gyn who specializes in infections. Good luck.
