A member asked:

I have a carpal boss on my hand. the bump itself is painful, which makes sense to me, but i'm wondering why the area around it is too? what damage could that be? i feel pain under the bump, on my scaphoid (i think). what could the causes for pain be?

Your hand surgeon, after careful examination &any appropriate studies, is in the best position to advise you about these matters. Since prior injuries are capable of causing carpal bossing, you may have old ligament, bone or tendons damage.
