I have a carpal boss on my left hand, not a ganglion cyst.the bump itself is very sensitive and painful to touch but so is the area around it. what could be causing the pain around the bony bump?is it a damaged tendon/ligament/tissue? how's it fixed?

A carpal boss is often formed by underlying arthritis at a carpometacarpal joint. That alone can cause pain and sensitivity. They can also irritate the adjacent extensor tendons causing pain & snapping of the tendons. Best to have your hand evaluated by a hand surgeon to get a definitive answer.
