As an amputee expert, the absolute answer is no! The belief is that removing the painful joint will remove your pain. However, the reality is that the nerves have been imprinted with that pain and the nerves remain behind after the amputation. Therefore, the pain remains as well. Keep looking for the right specialist who can provide you with a proper diagnosis and treatment.

Prior to ANY further treatment, you need to have a concrete diagnosis! Other than a malignant cancer or life threatening infection, an amputation in a 21 yo person is RARELY IF EVER indicated. Please disregard the idea of an amputation and find a new orthopaedic surgeon who can do whatever is necessary to make a correct diagnosis and perform whatever surgical procedure, if indicated.
