A member asked:

Good morning doctors. i was told to use a water pik for my gums..is the pick supposed to touch the gums, or do i just spray the water into the spaces..or both? how long is a good time to use the water pik? would you possibly have anyother suggestions?

It's the force of the water that removes the debris ,so you don't need to touch the gums with it. Use the WATER PIK for about 30sec. to a minute for the upper and lower teeth. After this use dental floss and or interdental brush for the best results, but you still have to brush with your toothbrush for the most effective results.

Fill 1/2 way w room temperature water. OK to add some mouth wash. Set at medium or lower until you get used to then pulsations. Put tip inside your mouth. Lean Nover sink so water can drain out. Turn it on and run nit around gum line and between teeth. OK to have tips touch teeth Ron just slightly away from teeth, Keep running tip around until you run onto water. Then brush 2 full minutes by clock
