A 77-year-old male asked:
Wife is 5 year bc ends anastrozole next month. annual blood : alp 122( lab norm 100); ggt-19; rest liver normal. is pointing to bone cause. pcp not to worry- test will be redone in 4 weeks. can anastrozole contribute to alp? concern is cancer bones?

Please have her Vit D level checked. The anastrozole blocks estrogen, so her body may not be absorbing calcium properly, and if her Vit D is below 50, she may be leaching calcium from her bones. This is easy to fix, by taking 50 mcg with a meal daily. If Vit D is over 50 or so, then more testing may be warranted.
