A member asked:

I have been having nasal dryness for a few days, today while blowing my nose, a blood clot the size of a fingertip came out, what likely happened?

It is likely that the dry mucus membranes inside the nasal passageway developed a crack. You then started bleeding at this site and a large collection of blood collected there before it clotted and stopped bleeding. This clot subsequently broke off when you blew your nose.

Hello. The blood clot is a result of what sounds like minor bleeding in your nose that you weren’t aware of. Use a nasal saline spray or consider Ponaris. That’s a nasal drop made of essential oils that soothes dry noses. Very popular in our Arizona dry heat. If the bleeding/blood clots persist, see your ENT specialist.
