Infection may have been the reason for poor healing of wound but there are other factors like nutrition or underlying illness that may affect wound healing. You are keeping it clean; follow up with your doctor and surgeon who could examine and advice you better on issues to improve healing. There may be abnormal scarring based on the skin type may also be a complication.

This is a complicated situation & if your husband’s surgeon does not object, it might be worth a consultation with a wound care specialist: they can be very helpful if available in your area. It sounds like you are doing the right things overall, but agree with previous reply that nutritional status & other medical conditions can affect wound healing.
