Hello my 3 year old son fell friday and hit his head on my dresser drawer it left what looked like an open wound but today it doesn't look bad because we sterilzed it and used antibiotic oniment on his head should we have taken him to the er anyway?

See below: It sound as if you treated your child appropriately. Stitches or glue may have made the eventual scar smaller, but again, it sounds as if you provided good care.

Best Care: The real question is what not to do that slows down healing. Avoid using alcohol, peroxide, hibiclens, betadine, and bleach solutions. Inflammation ( red, hot, swollen, tender) is important to healing so anti-inflammatories (motrin, advil) are bad. Cover the area with a clean dressing changed every other day and protected from trauma. Antibiotics do not help healing unless it is truly infected.
