If you can't attribute the significant hypokalemia to taking a diuretic or losing potassium from diarrhea, kidney disease or excessive alcohol use, then an endocrinologist or a nephrologist should be consulted. Hyperaldosteronism ,which is a cause of hypertension, is a possibility.
