Besides positive liver ultrasound, elevated liver enzymes, AST and ALT, especially AST, are usually high in early stage of alcoholic liver disease. Spider angioma (spider nevi) occur in late stage of alcoholic liver disease, i.e. liver cirrhosis. Furthermore, spider angioma is not a specific sign for liver cirrhosis.
