A member asked:

I've read articles saying that removing lower wisdom teeth will cause jawline to recede, as bone is not static but constantly slowly evolving, and that removal of wisdom teeth removes stimulus from mandible. is this true? what does the evidence say?

I dont have the article you have read but what I would do is to go to end of article and look at references to see what they say. You can also go to PUBMED.gov and look at the worlds lit about you specific questions and I would look at articles on Fins.

There are two types of bone in the lower jaw. Basal bone is structural bone, alveolar bone is tooth supporting bone. If a tooth is removed, the surrounding alveolar bone may remodel but the basal bone will remain robust. As an adult all of the bones in your body completely remodel every 7-8 years. Removing lower wisdom teeth will not cause jawline recession. Please review this with your Dentist.
