Butalbital has a half life of 35 hrs., and elimination takes at least 1.5 days. The drug can be habituating or even addicting and can result in withdrawal symptoms on sudden cessation. Blood levels can be checked if necessary. Since most passes via kidney, renal insufficiency can prompt increasing bodily levels.

For almost all people, it takes several days before butalbital is completely gone from their bodies. If it is taken multiple times a day, the drug will be present for even longer.
