I have gerd and i have been on a couple rounds of pantoprozol. it really helped me. but when i stop taking it, my reflux goes back to being worse. should i just stay on the ppi indefinitely?

Relatively common, rebound hyperacidity becomes difficult to address. Best would be to establish with a gastroenterologist to have a baseline upper endoscopy. Long term treatment involves also lifestyle changes, diet and weight loss if applicable.
