Hi. could you please help explain something to me. why is it when i try to stand and apply weight on the left leg my knee feels like it is going to buckle and give way? i have excruciating pain around and under the kneecap i also have a vertical tear?

You might find some support from a velcro or elastic brace, but the knee pain will indeed be destabilizing, and without support, make it difficult to ambulate. An orthopedic surgeon should be involved. Whether it is surgical repair or local injection, would be unclear based on information provided. Physical therapy may be very helpful.
