A member asked:

My wife age 42 has hsv1+cmv co-infection, adenomyosis, bulky ovary and cervix. doc pescribe pap semar.can pap test result get abnormal and detect hsv1? why she facing white discharge, heavy bleeding after many yrs of infection at the age of 26?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Both HSV and CMV continue as latent infections. The PAP smear may if done well detect HPV infection. There is no need to be looking for HSV1 since you already have the diagnosis, the PAP smear is to screen for cervical cancer since early detection could lead to quick intervention and better outcome.
