Some cancers do not show up on pet scans. Pet scans are helpful in detecting invasive fungal infections. Some noninvasive fungal infections may be missed. A radiologist can advise you further.

Fungal meningitis and carcinomatous meningitis fail to be adequately diagnosed by a PET scan. Lumbar puncture is by far the best test for such entities
