Are you sure you're not exaggerating? This suggests something an inch or more in diameter, about the size of a ping pong ball. If so, definitely see a doctor soon; do it immediately if the lump is tender or if you have fever.

If it is close to the Adam's apple it could be a thyroid nodule. If it is, that should up and down when you swallow.
