That's a great question. With proper glucose control systemically and proper management of intraocular manifestations of diabetic retinopathy with anti-VEGF medications and sometimes laser and surgery, there is rarely a need for anyone to be blinded by diabetes. However, it remains the leading cause of blindness in the US.
