Acute interstitial nephritis is one acute (quick, days or weeks) side effect of proton pump inhibitor drugs (Prilosec is one of them) but it is very rare. Most of the adverse effects of Prilosec occur with long term use, months or years.

I have acid relfux ( acid coming up). PPIs ( Prilosec, Nexium, and Prevacid) give dizziness and swelling in my throat. Doc won't put me on prescription. Zantac and Pepcid isn't strong enough. No h.pylori. Should I take ppi regardless of side effects?
