Lymphocytes are a type of white blood cell. The absolute lymphocyte count (ALC) is used to tell how many lymphocytes are in the bloodstream rather than the percentage of lymphocytes in the overall white blood cell differential count.

The absolute lymphocyte count is the actual number of lymphocytes calculated based on the percentage on the total leukocyte count. The absolute number is used to determine if the count is normal or not.
