Can you get exposed to the virus that causes cold sores without actually getting a cold sore? i may have been exposed to the virus. what should i do to prevent a cold sore from occurring?

You could get infected with HSV and not have any sores. However, if you did infected, the virus will be with you for the rest of your life. There is nothing to prevent sores. If you get troublesome sores, you doctor can prescribe antiviral medication.
