Taking pain medication may be helpful however the body is telling you to rest the area. It is important you continue to take deep breadth to prevent small airway collapse. It is preferred that you seek medical care if not improving or there is worsening of the situation or if you should have fever. Rest and deliberate deep breadth is important as you wait for improvement.

While the pain is suggesting a musculoskeletal source, such as a torn muscle or broken rib, other conditions cannot be ruled out. Regardless, getting examined by your doc should only help at least alleviate the anxiety around the possible source and needed treatment.
