A member asked:

Will 1000 iu of vitamin d daily correct a deficiency?

Maybe/not. The average adult can tolerate 2500 IU daily with no risk of excess. Sometimes 5000 IU/d or more are used to treat a deficiency. Treatment would best be guided by an occasional blood test as excess Vit D can result in problems.

It would be better to take 5000 units of vitamin D3 daily for three months and then reduce the dose to 2000 units/day. For healthy diet: http://www.choosemyplate.gov/., exercise 30 minutes/day, drink enough water daily so your urine is mostly colorless, have safe sex, no tobacco alcohol weed or street drugs. Get HPV and Covid vaccines. Wish you good health!

Depending upon severity of deficiency, it may take a long while to return to a normal serum level. Likely best to ingest a higher dose, and since this is fat soluble, recheck levels in about 2-3 months. Most adults do well to aim for serum of 50-70 ng/ml, and best not to exceed the higher level due to risks to kidney. Discuss process with your doctor.
