Is it true that the sun can help get rid of vitamin d deficiency?

Yes: It is true. Vit d is otherwise known as the sunshine vitamin. You have to balance getting enough sun to raise your vitamin d levels but not enough to cause skin cancer i.E melanoma. Sunscreen on you will negate the vitamin d effect.

This si the paradox of our current era... Large scale findings of low Vit D levels in USA citizens and the need for more sun exposure (3o minutes daily) vs worries about increased incidence of Skin Cancer. So, it currently looks like Vit D3 supplementation is indicated.

Variable: Duration of corrective treatment varies depending upon the cause leading to vitamin d deficiency, e.g., nutritional deficiency vs inability to activate vitamin d. For nutritional vitamin d deficiency, high-dose vitamin d, 2, 000 to 5, 000 iu/day, is given over 4-6 week.
