If your partner had an active lesion (even with a negative IgM test) , HSV is very contagious and you may have contracted the virus. The "good news" is that sexually active individuals almost inevitably acquire this disease, and treatment is available for active lesions with antiviral meds. Stress from any source (disease, emotional, school, work, etc.) can activate latent HSV.
