Im covid positive and 9 weeks pregnant. have had fevers up to102 for a week. ive read covid can cross placenta and cause birth defects. what can i ask my ob to monitor and can this cause cerebral palsy etc? worried because all infections dangerous?

The data thus far shows that healthy mothers with COVID 19 do not significantly place the baby at risk. If you are short of breath, please see the Emergency room. Keep well hydrated, see your OB by video and treat fever. Request information regarding CDC and other guidelines.

Any fever should be investigated. Although bacterial infections are more common than viral, your COVID positivity certainly makes that a risk. However, (a) COVID can cross the placenta, but usually does not. (b) If your immune system is good, your antibodies will cross the placenta & protect your fetus. (c) COVID is not known to cause CP. (d) Get vaccinated! Those antibodies will protect your baby
