Resting blood pressure in a 16 year old should be below 130/80. if at rest, your blood pressure is higher than this you need to see a Dr for a full evaluation. If there is an underlying cause, the Dr will attempt to treat the cause. If there is no obvious cause, the Dr may try to treat the high blood pressure itself. Either way, only a Dr after having examined you can determine the best treatment.

Your BP needs to be high enough to move the blood around to all your tissues. If it is too high for too long it triggers long term changes in various blood vessel walls. When this involves the kidneys it can cause decline in function/failure, the heart, it causes thickening of walls. If it reaches too high you are at risk of stroke/death is/when blood vessels break in your brain. Get it evaluated.

Monitor and log BP, avoid excessive salt intake an obtain a renal test. This includes a urinalysis. Discuss your BP log with your PCP and describe your family history during the visit.
