A member asked:

I just recently found out i was pregnant, 5 weeks, and my hgc level was a little over 5,000 yesterday when i got bloodwork but now the doctors are trying to say i'm having an ectopic. is that possible? i've had an ectopic before and it's not the same?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

An HCG level of "over 5 K" is a definite positive, but can be produced by an ectopic pregnancy as well. If a pelvic sonogram does not show an intrauterine "yolk sac" at "5 weeks of pregnancy", your physician may be concerned about a non-uterine origin of the pregnancy. Prior ectopic pregnancy increases the chance of a repeat.
