A member asked:

My high vaginal swab test results show epithelial cells: 8-12/hpf, wbc:1-2/hpf, bacteria: ++, clue cells: 4-6/hpf. no fungal spores or trichomonas. what does this mean?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Clue cells are certain cells in the vagina (vaginal epithelial cells) that appear fuzzy without sharp edges under a microscope. Clue cells change to this fuzzy look when they are coated with bacteria. If clue cells are seen, it means bacterial vaginosis is present. If you have any symptoms you should discuss that with your gynecologist.
