The best person to advise you further is an Orthopedic doctor. I assume that you were checked by a physician who ordered you to have an X-ray done. You can go back to the same doctor; otherwise you should get checked by an Orthopedic specialist or sports Medicine specialist He will place a proper/protective dressing on your toe so that you can play without hurting and harming your broken Toe bone

You can tape the great toe to the second toe. This will only help with pain . Playing may cause more damage and require surgery. I love sports and I feel your need to play, but if pain becomes more intense you may have to stand on the sidelines.

Buddy splinting will help some but won’t prevent further injury. Depending on what type of fracture and which bone is fractured the injury may be worse if you continue to play.
