Plavix, an antiplatelet agent, is primarily effective against clot formation in arteries but is not enough protection against clot formation in venous blood or on artificial mechanical heart valves. Yet aspirin or plavix are indicated for clot prevention in coronary artery stents. I think your cardiologist would want you to take both Coumadin and plavix for best protection.

Consider switching the Coumadin for one of the newer anticoagulants such as Eliquis or Xarelto. I think that these are much better drugs - more reliable dosing, far fewer drug and food interactions, no need for regular blood tests.
