A member asked:

Recently i had abnormal results on a liver function test. ast = 215 / alt = 135. drinking is the issue. i don't think i can stop cold turkey. will the liver still be able to heal if i cut back by say 95%? or is abstinence required for liver to heal?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Cutting by 95% is better than current practice. You should try to quit alcohol entirely. Do not take acetaminophen (Tylenol). Alcohol is a poison that never did anybody any good, ever. It will destroy your brain cells, damage testicular cells that make testosterone, facilitate development of cancer in many organs, cause hepatitis, cirrhosis and pancreatitis etc. There is no safe level.
