A member asked:

I have an ivc filter that is fractured and perforated. i am getting a hysterectomy. could the placement of the gas during surgery cause pressure and cause possible movement of the filter?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

The presence of an IVC filter for prevention of movement of blood clots is not performing a necessary function if "fractured/perforated", so see a hematologist who may recommend replacement prior to planned surgery, which may increase the chance of blood clotting. The gas instilled intra-abdominally (for laparoscopic surgery) will not affect the IVC.
