A member asked:

Had an upper endoscopy. final report says "likely benign" submucosal lesion. when a gastro writes "likely benign" are they pretty sure it's benign but hedging?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

When doing an upper endoscopy, a gastroenterologist may identify lesions and refer to them as being likely benign. This means that given their experience the lesion appears to be benign but they almost always biopsy the lesion to be able to confirm that the lesion is indeed benign. Check with your gastroenterologist to see if the lesion was biopsied.
