Gastroesophageal jx: The Z line is your Gastroesophageal junction.. An irregular Z line is sometimes biopsied to see if there is a change in the type of mucosa or covering, such as would be seen in Barrett;s esophagus. This can be a precancerous condition and occurs with long term exposure of the exophagus to acid, such that the lining looks more intestinal than esophageal. Ask your doctor about the pathology report.
