Selection of medications for arthritis is a balancing act...strength vs safety. As they get get stronger they tend to come with greater risk of side effects. Meloxicam is one of the safest. Essentially every other med selected that would be stronger than Meloxicam would come with added risk and be a less safe option. The choice to take that risk is one you make with the guidance of your doctor.
