I was told i have a retinal tear near the bottom of my eye. i don't have any symptoms at all. is that common or should i be alarmed?

An ophthalmologist that specializes in diseases of the retina can examine this area and tell you how extensive the tear might be. It is possible that an area like this can detach and cause bothersome symptoms not to mention possible loss of vision. You should see an ophthalmologist.

A small retinal tear without subretinal fluid can be walled off with an outpatient laser procedure. A tear that progresses to a retinal detachment requires much more complicated surgery and a loss of some vision is common. See a vitreoretinal specialist ASAP to have this in-office laser procedure and get set up for long term monitoring of both eyes.
