A member asked:

I recently had a hsv 1 igg test come back 16.1 what exactly does the number 16.1 mean? also ive never had an outbreak or anything impacting that i would have it is there a chance for a false positive?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

HSV IgG results are reported as positive, negative or inconclusive. Since IgG indicates prior exposure, your stated result is positive. HSV is very contagious, and exposure is very likely over time. If you have no history of outbreaks, it is not possible to determine when contact occurred.
